Amazon World
Watery Lane, Newchurch, Sandown. PO36 0LX (view map)
Opening times: All year daily from 10am Amazon world, the largest and newest exotic animal attraction on the Island, transports you to the depths of a tropical rainforest, carefully recreated as an eduction and conservation centre. Your journey will take you through the lush vegetation of the rainforest, with waterfalls, flowers and the colourful birds of its canopy, through to the timber clearance and arid desert - the results of deforestation. New for 2010 is the totally new 'Secrets of Xenathra' with Sloth just wandering past you in the trees. Visitors enter 'Madagascar' where you will walk amongst the lemurs. The lost temple lies forgotten, half buried in desert sand. Here animals have made their homes within the ruins to escape the harsh desert sun. Visitors will be able to travel across a raised walkway to observe the animals in their homes! Animals you will find here include: Armadillos, Giant Tortoise, Fennec Foxes, and the mischievous Meerkats! You will meet over 200 species of rare and endangered birds and animals at Amazon World whose future depends on international breeding schemes in centres like Amazon World. Their aim is to reintroduce captive-bred wildlife to the natural environment where their survival depends on the preservation of the rainforests. Successful breeding projects at Amazon World have included meetkats, mongoose, lemurs and a baby sloth - the first to be born and survive in the UK for over 55 years. Children will be delighted to meet so many fascinating and beautiful creatures and to learn how they can help secure their future. Amazon World is designed to be seen in any weather and all areas within the park are wheelchair friendly. We have wheelchairs you can borrow if you haven't brought your own. We also have Jurassic Adventure play area, Falconry Displays and Keeper Talks daily and we also have a massive Special Events programme too! |
