Dinosaur Isle
Culver Parade, Sandown. PO36 8QA (view map)
Opening times: All year, daily The Isle of Wight is one of the richest sources of dinosaur remains in Europe so a visit to Britain's first purpose built dinosaur museum attraction at Sandown, is a must. The building, which was designed to represent a Pterosaur, houses life size dinosaur skeletons and models which include Iguanodon, Neovenator, Eotyrannus, and Hypsilophodons. Over 1000 fossils and dinosaur relics are also on show together with displays that cover the geology of the Island which take the visitor back through time from the last ice age to the cretaceous period of the dinosaurs. The curatorial staff also regularly lead fossil walks to nearby beaches. |
