Nunwell House
Coach Lane, Brading, PO36 0JQ
Opening times: 30 and 31 May, then 5 July to 8 September on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 1pm to 5pm, with tours of house at 2pm and 3.30pm. Situated a mile or so from the village, Nunwell House and Gardens should definitely not be missed. The picturesque house has been a family home since 1522 and is of great historic and architectural interest. It was here that Sir John Oglander, was host to Charles I on his last night of freedom and modern day visitors can still see the Parlour Chamber in which they met. The house is beautifully furnished, there are exhibits recalling the Aylmer family's military connections, plus an Old Kitchen exhibition and Nunwell is surrounded by 5 acres of tranquil gardens including a walled garden also enjoying the views across the Solent. |
