Ventnor Downs
Half a mile north of Ventnor (view map)
Opening times: All year The Downs rise sharply from the sea and form an impressive backdrop to the town of Ventnor. Rich in wildlife associated with chalk grassland, including flowers and butterflies. There are a range of wonderful walks although many have steep paths. From the south and west of the Radar Station are the chalk slopes of Bonchurch Down and St Boniface Down which is the highest point on the Island at 770ft above sea level. To the north east of the Radar Station is Luccombe Down and from here a path leads down into Luccombe where the coastal path can be found. |
