Savour the atmosphere of Shanklin's old coaching inn, which dates from the 1820s. Situated at the top of the famous chine, this beautiful thatched pub is one of the most photographed in Britain. Its pretty exterior is echoed in the contemporary décor inside. Families are made especially welcome.
The inn is close to two popular long-distance Island walking trails — the Coastal Path and the Worsley Trail — which makes it an ideal refreshment stop for walkers. There is a full menu available from bar snacks to succulent steaks, and a children's menu. Car park nearby.
Beautifully situated right on the beach, this thatched cottage was built in 1817 by Shanklin's first operator of covered bathing machines. Inside the low-beamed bar, the pub's history is described in the pictures that line its historic walls. The simple menu includes sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes, battered cod and jumbo sausages. Vegetarian options.
